In a result NO ONE saw coming, the USA defeated Canada in their hockey game today, and took first place in Group A of the preliminary round! Canada was expected not only to win, but to dominate the US...but it wasn't to be today!
The US outhit and outworked Canada throughout, and despite getting outshot, definately appeared to believe they could win. They scored in the first minute of the game, and just fed off of that energy for the rest of the game!
US Goalie Ryan Miller was just awesome, 42 saves on 45 shots! Dude definately kept us in the game today. And Ryan Kesler's empty net goal was actually pretty amazing. Swatted it in, one handed, around known douchebag Corey Perry. They celebrated as such after it went in:
Overall, this is AMAZING! Whether the US medals this Olympics or not, they have at least sent a message to the rest of the world that they are a force to be reconed with. And depending on the result of the Sweden-Finland game later tonight, the US could end up with the #1 seed in the elimination rounds. 3 wins gets USA the gold. Winning their next game gets them into the final four, where they would only have to win one of two games to get a medal. So, really, all I have to say, is this...
