MMR: A Week of Famous Dates

This week in the middle of March is a rather well known week with a lot going on. So, in an effort to educate everyone as to what they have to look forward to this week, I will describe what is ahead!

March 14: Today might be the most important day of the year…at least to those who have significant others. Today is the man’s response to Valentines Day. Today is Steak and Blow Job day.

Every year on the 14th of February, men are faced with the unenviable task of trying to find that special gift, on top of getting the right bouquet of flowers, and getting reservations at the right restaurant (all at overly inflated prices) to satisfy his woman on this most commercial of holidays. And while its nice seeing the smile on your lady’s face when you get her the right thing, the weeks before can be agonizing. Also, we can feel left out…being as there is a day for men to show their women how they feel, but no day for the woman to return the favor! Thus, Steak and BJ day was started.

The day is pretty self explanatory. In order to feel appreciated, we men don’t need fancy gifts or flowers or a big night on the town. Just a nice steak, and a BJ, and we’re satisfied! Women should be down with this idea just as much as the men are, since they will try that much harder on V-Day, knowing their day is just the next month. Stepping up on V-Day would lead to a much better S&BJ day the next month. Everybody wins!

For some reason, this day has yet to catch on as well as the corresponding February holiday. So its my duty to get the word out.

March 15: Beware the Ides of March. This famous line from Shakespeare’s play Julius Caesar has immortalized this day in human history. The Ides of March is best known as the date that Julius Caesar was killed in 44 B.C. Julius Caesar was stabbed to death in the Roman Senate led by Marcus Junius Brutus, Gaius Cassius Longinus and 60 other co-conspirators. Legend has it that on his way to the Theatre of Pompey (where he would be assassinated), Caesar saw a seer who had foretold that harm would come to him not later than the Ides of March. Caesar joked, "Well, the Ides of March have come", to which the seer replied "Ay, they have come, but they are not gone."

This day isn’t very widely celebrated, it’s mostly just famous. The Ides of March is celebrated every year by the Rome Hash House Harriers with a toga run in the streets of Rome, in the same place where Julius Caesar was killed. However, usually its just a day for everyone who’s ever read Shakespeare to tell everyone else “Beware the Ides of March,” and a day for all those who have not to be confused.

March 17: March 17th will always hold a special place in my heart, as it is St. Me Day! It’s a day for everyone to dress in Green and celebrate me...the man who drove the snakes out of Ireland. Or maybe I taught the people of Ireland about the Holy Trinity using a shamrock. Either way, its pretty awesome.

March 17, popularly known as St. Patrick's Day, is believed to be his death date and is the date celebrated as his feast day. It is celebrated both in and outside of Ireland, (America) as both a liturgical and non-liturgical holiday. In the dioceses of Ireland it is both a solemnity and a holy day of obligation and outside of Ireland, it can be a celebration of Ireland itself.

I’ve written on St. Me Day quite a bit in the past. Actually, for reference, look at the following links from the past years: 2010 Blog Post, 2009 Blog Post, 2008 Blog Post. I might write yet another chapter in my growing works about this amazing day, but if I do not, still don’t forget to drink up and wear green!

March 20: This is the first day of Spring! Hopefully the weather remembers that it is spring and warms up.

That’s it. And as you can see, we have quite a week ahead of us! So go out and enjoy it! I know I plan to!
