Today we got a day off from school. People got to stay home from work. Beaches were filled with sun seeking patrons, and lakes and rivers everywhere were populated with boats and swimmers.
But why?
In case you forgot, today is Memorial Day. A day to remember the men and women who have fought and died for our country's freedom.
The United States has been in many wars over the years. We fought to separate ourselves and become our own free nation. We fought to reunite ourselves nearly a century later. We fought to quell evil with our friends across the pond and to defend our shores from invasion. We fought communism, and we've fought to help those who cannot defend themselves. Regardless of what you feel about some of these wars, the men and women who fought in them were doing so for us. They were doing so in order to keep us free and let us enjoy the freedoms we have come acustomed to.
So, today, I ask that you take time out to remember those who are fighting for you. Whether you agree with where they are fighting, why they are fighting, or who they are fighting, or not...they are going out there for you. So, if you see them, thank them for sacrificing their time to defend this country. Thank them for thinking of you when they go out to put their life on the line. And take a moment of silence for those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice for us. They did not have to put themselves in harms way, they chose to because they wanted to protect us.
And that is something worth remembering.

oh yeah and back in the day some were drafted and so had to, but other than that well said.
