The Danny Miller Experience

The following is a true story, and it happened to me tonight. Danny Miller is the in arena announcer for the Sharks. He also handles the intermission MC duties. Basically, he is the voice of the Sharks. This is a story about meeting him tonight.

Let's set the scene. Tonight the Sharks played the Red Wings. Also, some of my friends on the Sharks message board, Mr. K and CTGray, are having birthdays this weekend (Gray yesterday, K tomorrow). So this seemed to be a good opportunity to go out and pregame downtown. The word was posted on Fear the Fin, and in total 14 people showed up to hang out and celebrate at Firehouse Bar and Grill. Which was awesome. This community rules!

We were having a good time, a few drinks, just BSing, and who should walk in, but Danny Miller! We call him over, and he actually came over to talk to us! Someone asked him about the Joe Ike incident (Joe Ike was the long time Sharks announcer before he was let go and Danny Miller was given the job), and he was really open about it, saying it was a shitty situation, and he turned down the job twice before he was basically forced into it. It was surprising to hear someone being so open about it for a bunch of random Sharks fans.

He also was asked (mostly joking, although it wouldda been cool) by Mr. K if he could get us into the on ice intermission contests, or the commercial break trivia competition...and Danny actually took Mr. K's number and said he'd check! Which was nice of him. We filled him in on Fear the Fin, and then he had to get down to the Tank. He said, though, that he wanted to buy a drink for the birthday people...which was amazing! We showed him which waitress was ours, and he talked to her, and left.

So we talked about how cool it was that he talked to us for like 10 minutes, and that he was willing to buy the birthday kids a drink! Cool, cool. So we ask the waitress if we can get the drinks, and she said she just took the money he gave her, and took it off the bill. And she showed us the money he gave her. We figured it would be like 20 bucks. No, it was 100. Seriously, Danny Miller threw us a c-note to help us pay our bar tab. Unreal!

So Danny Miller is the new coolest person in the Sharks organization. Hands down. His generosity, and awesomeness during our pregame helped shine a light over what was a rather dismal performance by the Sharks tonight.
